Any TruColor software version.

Common Issues
•  Error message, "Send Message Fail".
•  Software does not support my available COM Number.
•  Sign not updating. No error message.
•  Software will not run on Windows.

Solutions
"Send Message Fail"
The software is unable to locate the communication port.
If you are using a 9-Pin communication cable, follow this procedure.
  1. Make sure you are using the original 9-Pin communication cable that came with the sign.
    Pro-Lite ONLY supports 9-Pin communication cables included with the product or purchased directly from our Web Store. 
  2. Go to Windows Device Manager.
  3. Locate >Ports (Com & LPT) to identify the COM Number (example below).

  4. Return to the TruColor software program, click FILE followed by SET COMMUNICATION, and enter the COM Number from Device Manager.
  5. Type a simple message and transmit the message to the sign.
If you are using a USB communication cable, follow this procedure.
  1. Make sure you are using the original USB communication cable that came with the sign.
    Pro-Lite ONLY supports USB communication cables included with the product or purchased directly from our Web Store. 
  2. Go to Windows Device Manager.
  3. Locate >Ports (Com & LPT) to identify the COM Number (example below).
    If a "yellow exclamation mark" is present next to the word "Prolific", then a computer reboot is required in order for Windows to recognize the USB cable.

  4. Return to the TruColor software program, click FILE followed by SET COMMUNICATION, and enter the COM Number from Device Manager.
  5. Type a simple message and transmit the message to the sign.
Software does not support my available COM Number.
Version 5 or Version 6 Users: COM Number reassignment will be required. This support page does not provide instructions for the procedure. A quick online search for "reassign windows com number" should bring up some valid results. User assumes all risks following any procedures outside this support page.
Version 6 users should use the Version 8 software which is newer and backward compatible.
Version 8 Users: Use the Contact us form to request an updated version of the software that supports additional COM Numbers.

Sign not updating. No error message.
The selected COM Number is incorrect. Follow the "Send Message Fail" solution.

Software will not run on Windows.
Version 5 Software = ONLY for use on 32-bit computers running Windows XP.
The Version 5 software as well as the Version 5 sign (PL-M2014R) have reached their end of life, do not support other Windows operating systems, and no newer versions of the software are available. The Version 5 sign is not compatible with the Version 6 or 8 software.
Version 6 Software = Use the version 8 software which is newer and backward compatible.
Version 8 Software = Most all newer computers are 64-bit and as such, should use the 64-bit version of the TruColor Software.

What are other possible causes and solutions?
  1. If you attempted to make the communication cable longer by using a standard phone cable along with a phone coupler, this may likely result in a communication failure. It is recommended to test the original cable by itself to confirm communication with the sign. If this basic set up works, then the issue is with the add-ons. Refer to the products RS232 wiring assignments.
  2. Either the cable is faulty or it is the incorrect one. In these cases, we recommend you follow the "Send Message Fail" solution to determine where the fault is.
  3. For an unknown reason, the sign has an issue with the onboard communication port. This can still be true if the sign is working normal and the sign works with the handheld remote. Pro-Lite offers repair services for a flat fee plus return shipping and handling. If you are interested, use the Contact Us form to request additional return for repair information.
